Lillian Christiansson

Lillian has been creative in one way or another ever since she was a child. Over the years, she has tried many techniques, but right now, she particularly enjoys working with acrylics.

Her subjects have varied over the years, and it’s probably that variation that she finds most enjoyable. Not becoming so comfortable that you do the same things over and over again. Daring to step out of your comfort zone, being willing to be bad at something in order to grow and become skilled at multiple things. To become versatile.

Or as David Bowie once said:

“If you feel safe in the area that you’re working in, you’re not working in the right area. Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth, and when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting.”

For several years, Lillian has mostly painted abstract works. She finds a special charm in focusing solely on colors, composition, balance, and everything else that goes into creating an appealing abstract painting. It becomes a bit like a dance—you take the canvas and brushes in hand, and then you start dancing together. The painting comes to life in the dance, and to make it good, you need to be attentive to what wants to emerge.

Being attentive is also what drives her to paint other subjects. What wants to come forward now? What is there a longing for?
